OUR VOLUNTEERS

ALEX RIVAS – Civics Tutor & Employment Program Mentor

 

Alex Rivas is a volunteer tutor and mentor helping the Center’s clients prepare for their naturalization exams, update their resumes, and apply for jobs online. He holds a BA in Political Science from CUNY Queens College and has been a resident of Queens since 2006. Alex works in sales at a technology company and performs music professionally. He has prior experience as a music instructor for students of all ages.

CRISTINA ZURAWSKI – ESL Intructor

 

Cristina Zurawksi teaches beginning level ESL classes to a diverse population of refugees and immigrants. She is a Managing Editor of English Language Teaching at Oxford University Press and has years of expertise in English instruction, curriculum development and teacher training. Ms. Zurawski holds a BA in English with a minor of French from West University of Timisoara, a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults from International House London, a Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) from the University of Cambridge, and a Teacher Training Certificate from the School for International Training. She has taught in Romania, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and the United States.

DYLAN FORSYTH – ESL Instructor 


Dylan Forsyth teaches pre-beginning level English classes to adult learners just gaining familiarity with the English language. He is a Senior Education Consultant for Oxford University Press and has also worked as a Partnership Manager for the Council for Aid to Education. Mr. Forsyth has experience teaching English in the U.S. and abroad, having worked as an ESL instructor in both South Korea and Vietnam. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Political Science from Appalachian State University and has served as Editor for The Peel, a literary magazine, and Staff Writer for The Magpie, an independent weekly newspaper.
